Temporary Assistance For Needy Families (DSHS)

Service Description

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) provides temporary cash for families in need. The WorkFirst Program helps participants work towards self sufficiency.

May include employment services, training, education, or other barriers towards assistance.
Persons who are caring for a relative’s child, or legal guardians or are acting in the place of a parent are also able to apply for TANF benefits on behalf of these children through our Non-Needy Relative, In Loco Parentis and Legal Guardian Program.

Persons who are eligible for the TANF program may also qualify for our Diversion Cash Assistance. Only eligible for a 30 day period per year.

Minimum Eligibility

  • Be responsible for the care of a child or are pregnant
  • Meet income and resource requirements based on family size and income
  • Meet citizenship and aliens status requirement
